Definition of a Bike Boulevard: A bicycle boulevard is a street where bicycles and vehicles share the same travel lane, as opposed to having dedicated vehicle and bike lanes. To create a bike boulevard, in addition to shared lane markings on the roadway, traffic calming devices are installed, including hardscape improvements to slow down vehicle speeds such as raised crosswalks, speed cushions, and curb extensions. This helps to slow down speeds to levels safe enough for vehicles and bicycles to share the same travel lanes (e.g., 20 mph).
