The maps, with text boxes, provided are part of a concept to help develop a framework for any potential future recreation investment. The objective is to explore and identify the best future opportunities for recreation development in these forests, how that might contribute to the local economy and support management of the facilities to become financially sustainable.
The ‘concept’ aims to give a sense of direction of the key ideas we might want to explore further, as part of a final framework. It’s important to stress that at present these are only ideas of what we could do in the future. The framework will act as a guide for future recreation investment. FLS will have limited funding and we will therefore seek partnerships, community organisations and commercial businesses to help deliver these ideas. Each idea will need a separate feasibility study to determine if it is financially sustainable.
We shared our initial ideas with you back in late February to get your input, and of course any ideas you had. We’ve now updated our ideas with the feedback we received and we’re ready for the next step. This updated concept plan is to gather support and concerns, before the next stage, and also to find out if there are any other ideas we should explore.
Once the concept is agreed after this 2nd consultation, more detailed work and analysis will be conducted. We are seeking your views on our updated ideas.
This consultation will close at midday on Thursday 16 October 2025.
