• Sectional Championships
• National Championships
• World Rankings
• Representing Florida on Sectional Teams
• Representing the USTA on National Teams
• Representing the USTA in Davis Cup, Federation Cup and/or Olympics

CRITERIA: This award is given to a person who has been, through his efforts, willingness, cooperation, and participation, most deserving of the respect and honor of all volunteers, either in play or organizational work for having made the greatest contribution to amateur tennis in Florida during the past years.

CRITERIA: This award is given to a person who has been, through her efforts, willingness, cooperation, and participation, most deserving of the respect and honor of all volunteers, either in play or organizational work for having made the greatest contribution to amateur tennis in Florida during the past years.

* 5. TENNIS FAMILY OF THE YEAR

ELIGIBILITY: This award honors a family who has contributed the most by promoting tennis at all levels of participation.

CRITERIA:
a. Each family member must be a member of the USTA.
b. The family must be active in volunteering in some or all of the following: Serving as a volunteer in fostering tennis at any level of the USTA in such activities as conducting tournaments, developing and/or sustaining junior and adult programs, holding office(s) of the various levels of the USTA, volunteer coaching, competing in tennis and enriching the game in other related activities.
c. Families previously nominated may be re-submitted.

ELIGIBILITY: Anyone who has served USTA Florida in a volunteer capacity. Current USTA Florida Board members are not eligible.

CRITERIA: This award is given to a volunteer most deserving for his/her administrative work for the betterment and furtherance of tennis in Florida.

ELIGIBILITY: Any print or electronic journalist from newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, including freelance reporters, in Florida.

CRITERIA: This award is presented annually in recognition for excellence in informing the tennis community and general public about state and local tennis news.

COMPETITIVE TENNIS AWARDS

* 10. BOBBY CURTIS JUNIOR TOURNAMENT OF THE YEAR

ELIGIBILITY: Any junior tournament or event sanctioned through USTA Florida. Tournaments on the National Schedule and tournaments that receive staff assistance with player selection, scheduling and overall tournament administration are excluded.

CRITERIA: This award is presented to an event which has shown excellent qualities in all facets of tournament administration including; accommodations for players, draw and seeding procedure, scheduling, and adherence to junior tournament regulations.

* 11. JUNIOR COMPETITIVE COACH OF THE YEAR

ELIGIBILITY: Any coach involved in USTA Florida junior competitive programs who exemplifies qualities of devotion to the game while being an inspiration to others.

CRITERIA: This award is given to a coach who has made notable contributions in junior competitive tennis and who has demonstrated leadership skills in such areas as instruction, writing, organization, and promotion of the game of tennis. Coaching local, state, and nationally ranked players who exhibit sportsmanship (exemplary conduct and character) as well as coaching USTA Florida team events should be considered.

* 12. ALBERT CARRINGTON BALINK AWARD-JUNIOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR

ELIGIBILITY: Any USTA Florida ranked junior player throughout the state.

CRITERIA: This award is given to a junior player(s) considered to have had the most outstanding full season performance in local, state, and national events and who most nearly approaches ideal sportsmanship, conduct and character. Representing USTA Florida in team events, age and previous years playing history may also be a consideration. Past recipients are eligible.

ELIGIBILITY: Any adult tournament or event sanctioned through USTA Florida.

CRITERIA: This award is given to a junior or adult wheelchair player considered to have had an outstanding season including, character, sportsmanship, and tennis ability. The award is based on any of the following:
-Sectional/National ranking
-Involvement in adult competitive tennis
-League tennis
-Recreational tennis

ELIGIBILITY: Any USTA Florida League Tennis Volunteer or Contractor who meets the criteria.

CRITERIA: This award is presented to a person(s) most deserving who through his/her efforts, willingness, cooperation, and participation worked for the betterment and furtherance of the USTA Florida League Tennis program.

COMMUNITY TENNIS AWARDS

* 18. JUNIOR TEAM TENNIS VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

ELIGIBILITY: Any Florida Junior Team Tennis volunteer who meets the criteria.

CRITERIA: This award is presented to a person most deserving whom through his/her efforts, willingness, cooperation, and participation worked for the betterment and furtherance of Junior Team Tennis in Florida.

* 19. USTA TENNIS ON CAMPUS LEADER OF THE YEAR

ELIGIBILITY: The USTA Tennis on Campus (TOC) Leader of the Year Award honors individual college student leaders for significant contributions made to the USTA TOC program on their respective campus. Eligible applicants will be current college students who hold leadership positions within their TOC program/college club tennis team. Applicants and their club must be in good standing with their college or university and the USTA.

CRITERIA: Applicants MUST demonstrate significant contributions to the USTA TOC program on their respective campus. Extra consideration will be given to those applicants who:
• Increase participation numbers and/or quality of their TOC program
• Mentored younger participants for future leadership positions in their TOC program/college club tennis team
• Mentored TOC leaders at other colleges or universities
• Utilized creative marketing and/or fundraising strategies.
• Utilized creative on-court programing
• Started or upgraded a large TOC event (i.e. club tennis tournament) and/or a TOC league or series
• Organized and/or promoted social activities for TOC participants (tennis related or other)
• Developed outreach efforts linking their TOC program to the community (tennis related or other)
• Embraced diversity, wheelchair tennis, and/or adaptive tennis
• Worked collectively with the Varsity Tennis Team(s) to improve visibility of tennis on their respective campus.
• Worked closely with the USTA Florida TOC Coordinator to promote the TOC program throughout Florida.
• Maintained a dynamic and up to date college club tennis team website.

ELIGIBILITY: Any USTA School Tennis volunteer or after school provider who is involved in implementing after school tennis programs in Florida and meets the criteria

CRITERIA: This award is presented to a person who, through his/her efforts, willingness, cooperation and participation, worked for the betterment and furtherance of the USTA School Tennis program in Florida.

ELIGIBILITY: Any person who has embraced the Ten and Under Tennis (TAUT) philosophy and meets the criteria.

CRITERIA: This award is presented to a person(s) most deserving who has recognized the importance of TAUT, and it’s a promoter of this initiative. This may include some or all of the following elements.
• Demonstrate a commitment to the concept of TAUT
• Advocate the format of TAUT
• Recognize the importance of the new ROGY Tennis Events and Tournaments
• Provide opportunities for recreational play rewarding frequency of play instead of winning and losing
• Pursue the educational and training opportunities available through the USTA Recreational Coaching Program and the USPTA and PTR’s Workshops
• Assist local schools by introducing and providing tennis to PE students and/or After School Programs
• Take advantage of permanent blended lines and dedicated facilities where possible.
• Provide affordable clinics and/or lessons to the youth in their community and make an effort to provide a parent orientation.
• Promote Festivals, Play Days, and Kids Tennis Clubs
• Provide affordable opportunities for children to play tennis for the first time and increase parent awareness and involvement in TAUT

ELIGIBILITY: Any volunteer instrumental in growing tennis in their community.

CRITERIA: This award is presented to a community tennis advocate who has made generous contributions that have resulted in the growth of tennis in their local community.

* 23. JIMMY GANTT MEMORIAL AWARD

ELIGIBILITY*: Any junior tennis player throughout the state who has overcome a physical impairment or injury and continues to compete to the best of his/her ability.

*NOTE: The eligibility for this award was based on outstanding achievement, sportsmanship and courage until 1984 when it was changed to the above eligibility.

CRITERIA: This award is given to a junior player who in addition to his/her condition exhibits strong character and sportsmanship.

Question Title

* 24. OUTSTANDING DIVERSITY ACHIEVEMENT

ELIGIBILITY: Given to an outstanding USTA Florida program leader, athlete, organization or administrator for success in providing outreach to the multicultural tennis community. This award may include NJTL chapters and/or leaders.

CRITERIA: This award is given to an individual or organization that has championed the cause for diversity both on and off the tennis court. Through hard work, persistence, and unwavering dedication, the nominee has helped to expand the image of tennis to include diverse populations.

Other considerations are demonstrating a high degree of organizational ability, success in serving all players in the area, quality off and on court programs, management structure, interaction with Parks and Recreation Departments, and involvement with the tennis community.
