World Water Forum 6 - Target II- sustainable increase of water productivity in irrigated systems

20% of survey complete.
The 6th World Water Forum, to be held in Marseille in March 2012”< (www.worldwaterforum6.com for further information), has been conceived as the Forum of “solutions”.
Twelve Thematic Priorities are addressed, and for each of them specific working groups were established after two formal consultations (one in Marseille in June 2010, and one in Paris in January 2011) to screen likely recommendations, and eventual targets ( link to World water forum 6 page)

The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID), coordinating theme 2.2 “Contribute to food security by optimal use of water”, understood a broad and extensive online consultation in march 2011 in order to collect the ‘voice’ of multiple stakeholders from around the world (read survey report). That first survey (1) enabled to refine the challenges and discuss a list of potential targets (read survey report - http://www.fao.org/nr/water/topics_wwf6.html). The feedbacks received enabled to define nine targets and start gathering “case studies”. For each of the targets, a “target coordinator” was designated and a ‘working group” established. (see list of targets-http://www.fao.org/nr/water/topics_wwf6.html)

Each of the target groups aims to refine the target definition, and gather relevant “workable solutions” to support the implementation of acceptable and effective activities that would lead to an achievement of these targets in the medium to long term – link to call of solutions webpage- and prepare the content of a specific session at the World Water forum.

This survey (3) aims to get your feedbacks on the Target II. : By 2020, sustainably increase by X% - as compared to 2005 – 2007 baseline –water productivity, per unit of land and per year (yield per m3, yield per ha) of irrigated agriculture (for specific crop categories). .

We value your views and inputs are welcome to help refine the definition and content of the target and its “solutions”. You will have a chance to suggest your own recommendation, and related solutions. You are not required to address all the questions, rather only those you are more familiar/concerned with.

The time required to respond to this questionnaire may be 10-15 min (depending on your level of involvement and the number of questions addressed) and the deadline for its submission is 3 December, 2011.

We value your inputs and we are looking forward to hearing from you. Please share this survey with others. For more on the Theme 2.2 and its targets please visit http://www.fao.org/nr/water/topics_wwf6.html
