12-8-2017 Assessment of Essential Skills in Writing Scoring Training

Students graduating in 2018 will be required to demonstrate proficiency in the Essential Skill of "Write clearly & accurately." The purpose of the Essential Skills in Writing Performance Assessment is to provide an alternative assessment for students who need to demonstrate proficiency in the essential skill of writing in order to obtain a high school diploma. The assessment targets secondary students who possess a high level of writing skills but are not demonstrating those skills successfully on the SBA writing assessment. This training will qualify participating teachers to score writing work samples in their districts, regionally, and across the state. Districts are encouraged to send a team of teachers.
