American Dairy Association North East

Dairy Food Advocacy Network (DairyFAN)

Are you social media savvy? Do you enjoy participating in conversations about where our food comes from and how it’s produced? If you answered yes to both of these, then the Dairy Food Advocacy Network (DairyFAN) is the place for you!

What is DairyFAN?

DairyFAN is a leadership and social media advocacy and professional development program designed for college students, young professionals and other leaders who are interested in advancing their knowledge, understanding and ability to engage in the growing and complex public dialogue about our farms and our food. DairyFAN is a program sponsored by the American Dairy Association Northeast.

DairyFAN combines interactive social media engagement, leadership training with food issues education and opportunities for networking and participating in digital initiatives around food. It offers access to a valuable network of skilled professionals through a program that supports the educational, personal and professional development of DairyFAN members.

DairyFAN is a great resume builder that will help members hone important professional and personal skills. DairyFAN members get guidance on how to beef up their social media skills both personally and professionally; opportunities to build their network within the agriculture industry; access to exclusive industry initiatives and events; and last but not least the opportunity to win prizes by participating in DairyFAN online initiatives.

Who should join DairyFAN?

Motivated, thoughtful and dedicated young leaders interested in learning about and making a difference in how we understand and discuss today’s farms, our food system and consumer access to safe, nutritious and affordable foods. Applicants must be at least 18 years old; be a resident of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware or northern Virginia; have the ability to travel independently; and have experience or background on a dairy farm, livestock farm, other agricultural activity; or equivalent educational or professional experience in farming, food or associated fields.

What do DairyFAN members do?

As a DairyFAN member, you will be asked to be actively engaged in the program by participating in the following activities:
  • Active Social Media Interaction: Engage in a minimum of five times per week in social media discussions, actively seek to expand their network, initiate and respond to key food topics and participate in special online DairyFAN events such as DairyFAN hosted Twitter parties.
  • Training Sessions: Attend quarterly educational sessions which will span a variety of topics and may be online or in person.
  • ADANE Events: Participate in ADANE events, (online and/or in person), networking activities, volunteer opportunities or community outreach. Members are encouraged to get involved in industry events happening in their area or state wide and bring these events to life via real-time social media engagement.
