Thank you for your interest in the 2017 Student Leadership Institute (SLI) sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) on June 28- July 1, 2017. This four-day institute for rising fourth through twelfth graders is designed to prepare students to take more active roles in their schools and communities through character development, leadership development and service-learning experiences.

While this is a free institute for public schools in NC, space is limited. In order to be considered, you must complete all parts of the application and the adult mentor(s) for the team must be committed to attending a two-day training on April 25-26, 2017 to prepare for the institute.

This is a very competitive process. Please consider your responses to the questions carefully. Before completing the online application, download a paper copy from this site http://charactermattersnc.com/ncdpi-student-leadership-institute/ to ensure that you have thoroughly considered all components.  Please do not submit more than one application per team.

Applications are due by 5:00 pm on Friday, March 31, 2017. Due to the volume of applications, we are not able to offer extentions. You will be notified on or before April 7, 2017 of your acceptance.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.

If you have any questions about the application or the Institute, please contact Fay Gore at fay.gore@dpi.nc.gov or Nakisha Floyd at nakisha.floyd@dpi.nc.gov . For phone inquiries, contact Bernadette Cole at 919.807.3847.
