Thank you for taking the first step towards making a meaningful difference. Whether it's sharing a cup of tea, enjoying a hobby together, or simply having a chat, your time and friendship can brighten an older person's day.

ACVVS matches compassionate people like you with older community members (recipients) who may be feeling lonely or isolated. Depending on your preference, you can choose to visit:

residents living in residential aged care homes, or
older individuals still living independently in their own homes.

Give the gift of friendship – just one hour every week or fortnight can brighten someone’s day and enrich yours in return.

The steps to becoming an ACVVS volunteer

Step One: Sign Up is your first step towards making a difference. Complete this form to tell us a little about yourself, your background, interests, and your availability. This information helps us find a meaningful match and provides everything you need to know about the role, including the essential training and requirements, for becoming an ACVVS volunteer.

To become an ACVVS volunteer, you must meet several requirements:

Be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Undergo a mandatory NDIS Worker Screening Check which we will arrange for you.
Provide proof of one primary COVID-19 vaccination.
Complete an orientation and online course to prepare you for your role.
Commit to visiting your matched older person for roughly 1 hour once a fortnight for a minimum of 20 visits.
Be willing to complete a very quick report on your visits each month.

To help you understand ACVVS and the essential requirements of the role, please download and read the Wesley Mission Queensland (WMQ) ACVVS Volunteer Handbook and the WMQ Volunteer Handbook. As part of your role, you will be required to understand and work within these guidelines.

The WMQ ACVVS Volunteer Handbook offers a comprehensive guide to your volunteering journey, beginning with an overview of the ACVVS and a clear breakdown of your position description and role requirements. It provides essential guidance on maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality, fulfilling your duty of care during emergencies or transitions, and managing feedback. Finally, you'll find practical visiting tips to make the most of your time together, along with support for navigating life changes along the way.
The WMQ Volunteer Handbook is a guide designed to help you understand the organisation and navigate your role safely and effectively. It provides an overview of essential policies, safety guidelines, and support systems available to you while volunteering.
