Countryside Alliance Pub Survey 4

We want to hear from you

Pubs form part of the backbone of rural communities and COVID-19 has had a huge impact on them. The feedback from our last three surveys has helped us put forward the views of rural pub owners to decision makers and has also received national media coverage. We regularly liaise with elected representatives and benefit hugely from the feedback you give us. With a new lockdown in place, your views on the future couldn't be more important to us.

Please just answer the questions that are relevant to you. Your contribution is really appreciated.
Please specify your role
What county is your pub located in?
After the November lockdown (Lockdown 2), and prior to the latest lockdown, did you notice an overall increase or decrease in customer footfall? Or did it remain the same as usual?
Now we are in lockdown 3, are you now using your pub as a premises for providing takeaways or as a shop selling essential goods?
If you are providing a takeaway service, does the inability to sell alcohol have a positive, neutral or negative impact on sales?
Prior to lockdown 3, did you notice that ‘regular’ customers were still visiting your pub as frequently as they did usually?
Prior to this lockdown, did you find that the requirement of ensuring customers purchased a ‘substantial meal’ to be either a positive or negative impact to your business?
Do you think the requirement to ensure all customers order a ‘substantial meal’ should be scrapped once pubs are able to reopen?
Did you alter your food menu to provide cheaper ‘substantial meal’ alternatives? Any examples of this would be appreciated.
Would you support the reintroduction of the Eat out to Help out scheme once pubs are able to reopen?
How much roughly did you spend (if anything) in providing the relevant virus preventative equipment? This could include: outdoor heaters, protective visors, protective screens and hand sanitisers.
The Adam Smith Institute, a think tank based in London, has suggested that one possible way of speeding up the rollout of vaccinations would be to use currently closed hospitality premises such as pubs as vaccination centres. Would you agree to allowing your pub to be used as a temporary vaccination centre if you received money for doing so from the government?
If you answered 'No we would not allow our premises to be used for the rollout of the vaccination', could you let us know why this is the case?
Will you be able to reopen your pub if restrictions are lifted by the beginning of April?
Will you be able to reopen your pub if restrictions are lifted by the beginning of next June?
Will you be able to reopen your pub if restrictions are lifted by the beginning of  December (2021)?
