West Mount Houston Road
Below are three potential alternatives for W. Mount Houston Rd.
Please Note: Right of Way (ROW) along W. Mount Houston Road varies from approximately 90 to 100 feet. In some areas, existing uses extend into portions of the available ROW. As a result, Option 2 may require reclaiming some ROW to accommodate proposed improvements. Option 3 may require reclaiming most of the currently used ROW.
Option 1: Existing Configuration with Sidewalks
Maintains the current roadway while adding buffered 8 ft sidewalks on both sides to create a more organized street.

Pros Cons
Improves pedestrian and bicycle safety Does not use full right of way
Enhances connectivity along the corridor May require adjustments to driveways or roadside features
Limited or no R.O.W. adjustments

Option 2: Add Shared Use Path (S.U.P.) to the Right of Way
Maintains the current roadway while adding a 10 ft shared use path on the south side to separate pedestrians and cyclists from traffic.

Pros Cons
Improves pedestrian and bicycle safety May require reclaiming right of way in some areas
Enhances connectivity along the corridor May require adjustments to driveways or roadside features
Maintains existing roadway configuration

Option 3: Add Travel lanes, Median and Shared Use (S.U.P)
Includes two travel lanes in each direction, 10 ft shared use paths on both sides, and a 24 ft median with a turn lane, similar to the recent W. Gulf Bank Road update.

Pros Cons
Improves safety by separating opposing traffic and reducing the risk of head-on collisions Requires reclaiming most of the right of way currently used for other purposes
Provides safer crossing conditions with pedestrian refuge areas and improved pedestrian and bicycle space May require adjustments to driveways, parking, or roadside features
Creates space for landscaping, lighting and buffer areas to improve comfort along the corridor May require more coordination before design and construction
Provides continuous connected shared use path
