ABOUT THE COURSE:
This project combines three remote skill-building sessions with three immersive, in-person design days to guide participants through the full process of creating and fabricating custom airfoils in Virtual Reality (VR). In the remote sessions, participants are introduced to CAD tools for modeling rotor airfoils and other aerodynamic components, building confidence in digital design fundamentals, collaborative workflows, and aerodynamics. With this foundation, participants will join in-person at SPEEA ACE’s Tukwila location to use Meta Quest 3 headsets and explore VR-based CAD environments that let them intuitively shape, manipulate, and refine their designs in three dimensions. These immersive tools provide a more natural and interactive design experience than traditional desktop software, enabling participants to “step inside” their creations and accelerate iteration. The program concludes with 3D printing each participant’s custom airfoil, bridging the virtual and physical worlds. Learners will develop practical skills in digital design, experience the potential of VR-based engineering, and produce tangible prototypes.
