The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) develops rapid response plans to be prepared for the possible future detection of invasive mussels in Utah waterbodies. The Flaming Gorge Reservoir Rapid Response Plan outlines the likely response if invasive mussels are ever detected at Flaming Gorge Reservoir.

Some of the proposed management actions would:
  • Restrict watercraft from accessing the reservoir for a period of 24-72 hours after detection to allow for mussel verification.
  • Prohibit shoreline launching around the reservoir and  limit watercraft launches to six public ramps during the first year after mussel detection.
  • Require exit inspections of departing watercraft at those six launch ramps during daylight hours from March through October.

This plan will be revisited every five years and any comments provided to the DWR, Wyoming Game & Fish Department, the U.S. Forest Service or the Bureau of Reclamation will be considered for future plan revisions.
