ASAM Opioid Use Disorder Treatment Application |
The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) is seeking experts to participate in the update of its National Practice Guideline for the Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder (NPG). As part of this effort, ASAM will also be convening a task force to consider how the update to the NPG can better address health disparities in the delivery of evidence-based care for OUD. Individuals can apply either to serve on the Guideline Committee, Health Disparities Task Force, or both.
Guideline Committee
The NPG was last updated in 2020, and the clinical recommendations in the current version are out-of-date, and do not address neither high-dose or low-dose initiation of buprenorphine, nor treatment in hospital settings. The guideline committee will be tasked with reviewing an updated systematic literature review and drafting recommendation statements using a GRADE and modified Delphi process for clinical consensus.
Health Disparities Task Force
OUD and overdose deaths disproportionately affect minoritized populations, particularly Black, Latino, and Indigenous communities, who also face significant barriers to receiving quality evidence-based treatment, especially medications for OUD (MOUD). ASAM is convening a task force to inform updates to its NPG, with a focus on identifying and reducing disparities in OUD treatment.
