Shipping of Biological Materials Training Requirements

Effective immediately, the free Packaging and Shipping Dangerous Goods training offered by the CDC is required for all individuals shipping biological materials and dry ice at UCLA. If you need to ship other hazardous materials including chemicals and liquid nitrogen, email laboratorysafety@ehs.ucla.edu for assistance. 

To obtain training certification, follow the steps outlined below. 

  1. Navigate to the CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov/labtraining/training-courses/packing-shipping-division-6.2-materials.html
  2. Access the course ‘Packaging and Shipping 6.2 Materials: What the Laboratory Staff Must Know’ by clicking on the Register Now button. Note: PACE is an acronym for Professional Acknowledgement for Continuing Education. Please visit The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science website to find more information. If this is not applicable to you, please choose “None” as the option.
  3. Complete all three sections of the course and the Post Assessment, which will used to determine your score.
  4. Once you have completed the training with a passing score of 80%, you will be issued a certificate. Please follow the steps outlined in the 'How to Add Related Certificates' Guide below.

    This workflow shows how to add related certificates from third party trainings into the Worksafe system. It makes keeping track of your record status more easily accessible with updated email notifications.
