CGM Competency Framework - Assessment of CGM Competency Levels

This survey is part of the implementation of a CGM Competency Framework, designed to support healthcare professionals (HCPs) in the effective, safe, and person-centered use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) in clinical practice.

As CGM becomes increasingly important in diabetes care, HCPs need a clear set of competencies that describe the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to use CGM data meaningfully. The framework aims to define these competencies and translate them into practical educational goals for training, continuing professional development, and clinical implementation.

The educational goals include understanding CGM principles, indications and limitations; interpreting and communicating CGM data; supporting individualized clinical decision-making; and promoting equitable access and integration into routine care.

Your input will help to assess the relevance, clarity, and completeness of the proposed competencies and educational goals.

Please select the CGM competency level that best reflects your current role and CGM-related responsibilities. Levels are based on your role and scope of practice, not on your professional title. They are not intended as a linear career ladder, and responsibilities may overlap across levels.

Awareness: I encounter people using CGM, but I am not primarily responsible for diabetes management. I recognize CGM, understand basic safety aspects, and know when to refer.
Competence: I provide routine diabetes care or regular support for people using CGM. I support CGM onboarding, basic data review, recognition of common patterns, follow-up, and referral when needed.
Expertise: I frequently review CGM data and support more complex cases. I use advanced CGM interpretation to guide individualized management decisions and advise colleagues with less CGM experience.
Leadership: I am responsible for CGM-related service development, implementation, training, governance, or policy. This may overlap with clinical practice at the competence or expertise level.
