1.Career Start is Charles Russell Speechlys’ 5-year programme designed to work with those from underrepresented backgrounds and guide you as you take your next steps towards a successful career.

👥 Who Can Apply?
  • We welcome applications from students who:
  • Are in Year 12 or equivalent
  • Are interested in a career in law or other professional sectors
  • Are motivated to grow and learn
  • Are attending a state, non-fee paying school or college and meet our eligibility criteria

Eligibility Criteria

The Career Start programme aims to widen access to the legal profession and increase opportunities for young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds. We would therefore ask you to complete the questions below to ensure you meet our eligibility criteria. The information that you provide will help us ensure our programme is meeting its goals and reaching a diverse group of young people.

To be eligible for the programme you must be currently in Year 12, attending a non-selective and non-fee-paying state school or college and meet at least one of the additional following criteria:
  • Neither parent has attended university
  • You are either currently eligible for free school meals, or have been in the past 6 years
  • You are either a full or part-time carer
  • You have come to the UK as a refugee or asylum seeker
  • You have been, or previously have been in local authority care
Please confirm that you are in Year 12 at a non-selective and non-fee-paying state school or college and that you meet at least one of the additional eligibility criteria.(Required.)
