Driver-Facing Camera Data Collection Form

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), the trucking industry’s not-for-profit research organization, is currently studying the potential safety impacts of driver-facing cameras (DFCs). The following survey is a key part of this research, which was identified by ATRI’s Research Advisory Committee (RAC) in 2025 as a top priority.

Please note that this survey is intended only for motor carriers who have fully deployed DFCs. A separate survey for motor carriers who have not deployed DFCs will also be conducted.

In this survey, motor carriers who have fully deployed DFCs are asked to assist with the following:
  1. Identify the most recent one-year time period prior to DFC deployment and a one-year time period after DFCs were fully deployed.
  2. For those two time periods, carriers are asked to provide the following:
    • Fleetwide mileage and safety statistics for each time period.
    • The use of other onboard safety technologies (e.g. lane departure warning systems) during those two time periods.
  3. Provide general information on how DFCs were deployed in your fleet.
All collected data will be kept completely confidential. The final published report will only be presented in an aggregated, non-identifying format.

Please contact Andrew Fain (afain@trucking.org) with any questions.
1.Please enter your contact information below. Occasionally, ATRI will follow up with participants to clarify responses. Your information will be kept strictly confidential.
2.How many trucks are in your fleet?
3.What is your primary business operation type? (Check only one)
4.Which driver-facing camera provider do you use?
5.Please identify the one-year pre-deployment and post-deployment (98%+ deployment) dates for which you will provide safety metrics.
Definitions:

DOT Reportable Crash: A crash that involves a commercial motor vehicle operating on a public roadway and includes: 1) a fatality, 2) an injury, or 3) results in at least one vehicle involved being towed away. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/subtitle-B/chapter-III/subchapter-B/part-390/subpart-A/section-390.5T.

Moving Violation: A citation received by a driver while operating a commercial motor vehicle. Examples include speeding, following too closely, reckless driving, improper lane change, failure to yield to right of way, and improper turn. (Does not include seatbelt or hand-held mobile device violations).
6.Please provide metrics for Period A (1-year Pre-Deployment).
7.Please provide metrics for Period B (1-year Full Deployment).
8.Have you deployed the following safety technologies across your fleet?
Yes, Fully Deployed BEFORE DFC Deployment
