The organizing committee is using the following survey questions to determine the level of interest in each of the topics identified below. The questions associated with each topic suggest specific areas of interest. Near the end of the survey you will have the opportunity to recommend topics that you would like to see included in this EPICS Collaboration Meeting.

  • How are you or your organization deciding whether to design your own control system hardware or purchase hardware from vendors?  What is your experience purchasing hardware from vendors and integrating with your control system?
  • How is EPICS enabling integration of consumer IOT electronics (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, etc.), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), and Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) in control systems? How are projects versioning and managing FPGA firmware?
  • What are recent developments and improvements for hardware integration, e.g., asyn?

  • What experience do projects have with developing and implementing common platforms for deploying control systems? This could be a single hardware platform or adopting a standard technology.
  • What experience do projects have deploying MicroTCA for accelerator control systems ?

  • How are projects implementing and managing large data acquisition systems (petabyte/yr scale) with EPICS?
  • How are EPICS toolkit components integrated into a coherent control system?
  • What real-time operating system use cases exist at other labs, and what EPICS-based solutions are being used?
  • How are US labs managing IPv6 in EPICS?
  • How are projects integrating commercial tools with EPICS?

  • What cybersecurity lessons have been learned from implementing or operating EPICS-based control systems?
  • How are US projects or labs planning to comply with the Zero-Trust mandate for EPICS-based control systems?

  • How do application developers collaborate with expert operators and User Experience Experts to provide operators with high quality user experience?
  • How can commercial and open-source tools be adopted for applications to improve operator experience? For example, Grafana for a dynamic display manager.
  • How can application developers decrease the amount of time to become a proficient user of the control system?
  • How do applications make it simple and intuitive to find what operators need?
