Introduction

In January 2011, the New York State Board of Regents adopted the New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards (CCLS) for English Language Arts & Literacy and for Mathematics. With the adoption of the CCLS, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) began the process of aligning state learning standards with the Common Core to ensure that all students graduate from high school ready for college and careers. NYSED began this alignment with the New York State Learning Standards for Social Studies, due in part to the inclusion of standards for literacy in history/social studies within the Common Core at grades 6-12. Further information concerning the standards for literacy in history/social studies, science and technical subjects can be found at: http://www.p12.nysed.gov/ciai/common_core_standards/.

To facilitate alignment of the NYS Learning Standards for Social Studies to the Common Core Learning Standards, NYSED developed the New York State Common Core K-8 Social Studies Framework. We value your feedback and would like to hear from you about this document.

Please review the framework document found at http://engageny.org/resource/new-york-state-common-core-k-8-social-studies-framework/ before providing comments through this online survey.
