APPLICATION for FREE TRAINING POGRAM FOR ESL/ELL COMMUNITY

School of Extended Learning at Governors State University is recruiting ESL/ELL community members for an Intensive English and Digital Literacy program, supported by the Governor’s Emergency Education
Relief Fund (GEERF) from the U.S. Department of Education. This grant supports the recruitment of 30 non-native English learners (ESOL/ELL) who meet the below eligibility criteria. The following services will be provided FREE OF CHARGE to participants:

  • 300 Hours of Intensive English and Computer Training (delivered virtually)
  • 30 Hours of Intensive One-on-One Tutoring per student
  • A Laptop that participants can keep upon completion of the program
  • A Wi-Fi Subsidy for the duration of the IEP program
  • Mastering college skills 
  • College and Career Guidance, Advisement, and Peer Mentoring
This project will run through November 30, 2021 and is funded by the Governor's Emergency Education Relief fund.
 
Eligibility Requirements
Non-native English speakers (ELL/ESOL Community Members) who meet the below criteria are eligible:

  • Participants test into ELLC Level 3 (CEFR B1), or show official TOEFL test scores 35 or above, or recent IELTS 5.0 test scores (within 2 years).
  • Participants have the intent to continue with their education and career goals, through enrollment in GSU, another IL College, or School of Extended Learning Career Training.
  • Participants are eligible if they are naturalized citizens, permanent residents (green card), or those with refugee status with social security number.   • Participants meet low-income criteria  (i.e., Pell-eligible or a household income within the established low- income levels table), and/or are a first-generation college student, or resident of a rural area.
  • Participants that complete the IEP program with overall attendance rate of 80% may keep laptops.
