Introduction

Qatar’s first Public Health Strategy is incredibly exciting and has the potential to make a real positive difference to the lives of the people of Qatar. Our strategy sets out 63 objectives to address 16 key health areas – these include diabetes, cardiovascular disease, road safety, occupational health and tobacco cessation.

Public health is about creating the environment and conditions to improve the health and wellbeing of our population. There are many examples of public health in action: increasing understanding of health through education initiatives, ensuring air quality is of the highest standard, establishing more screening clinics to monitor people’s health and providing more support for people who wish to lead healthier lifestyles.

Extensive planning and research has gone into the development of this strategy, but it is vital that it fully aligns with the wants, needs and hopes of you, the people of Qatar.

For this reason we have launched a 16 week public consultation during which time we invite every individual in Qatar to review the strategy and complete our health survey – so you can tell us how you feel about public health issues in Qatar.

By letting us know what you think, we will be able to ensure the strategy aligns with the wishes of the very people it aims to help.

I encourage you to answer the survey questions and play your part in developing a strategy that will improve the health of our great country.

Her Excellency Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari

Minister of Public Health
