The City of Alexandria is undertaking a project to protect two sanitary sewer segments crossing Holmes Run just upstream of I-395 that have been impacted by stream erosion. Inspections identified damage to one sewer casing and erosion beneath the other, putting both segments at risk of failure.

The project will reinforce these sewer segments to maintain the reliability of the sanitary sewer system, extend its service life, and protect the surrounding environment. Planning was completed in summer 2024, design is scheduled from summer 2026 through fall 2027, and construction is anticipated from spring 2028 through spring 2029.
