Network Topography

The Green Box (RSSD) creates a secure VPN connection to the M-Powered Security Center (ISO 27001 certified). It connects via the internet just like any other computer in your network architecture used to browse the internet. More specifically, the Green Box will only connect to servers hosted by Milacron via the TLS/SSL security protocol. (We use multiple servers for backup and system availability). If preferred, a separate network can be used to isolate the system completely.

The Green Box connection includes a Firewall and NAT. The Firewall affirms the security of the M-Powered managed secure network when its integrated in your LAN environment. Furthermore, it isolates your network from the M-Powered machines and the machines from your network. The NAT function gives each part of the M-Powered machine a unique IP address, which is used by the M-Powered technician when servicing your machine.

Question Title

* 7. Static IP Information (for non-DHCP connections)

Question Title

* 8. Shop Floor LAN Setup.
This interface is connected to the M-Powered machines through the Shop Floor LAN. Usually this LAN is separated from your Company LAN either physically (switch or hub) [1] or logically (VLAN) [2]. The typical range of addresses used by this LAN is 192.168.100.0/24.
NOTE: THE STATIC IP ADDRESS PROVIDED IN Q7 CANNOT BE LOCATED WITHIN THIS RANGE.  PLEASE DESIGNATE A COMPLETE AND UNUSED RANGE.

Question Title

* 11. Wireless connectivity also available.  Before proceeding with wireless connectivity please be advised of the following:
  • Security risks with insecurely configured WiFi access points. If the security is not correctly set, unauthorized users can connect to your machines.
  • Access Point range can be an issue if the signal extends beyond the walls of your facility.
  • WiFi signal propagation issues can occur if there are walls or duct-work blocking the signal.
  • Environmental factors such as dust, moisture, or electromagnetic emissions and susceptibility can cause poor signal quality and interruptions in the flow of data.
If you decide to use WiFi rather than Ethernet cables, you can do so by using a properly designed and configured network with Access Points connected to the Shop Floor side of the red and green boxes acting in Bridge mode.

Before going into a wireless configuration, however, keep in mind the following points:
  • Milacron is not responsible for the WiFi network performance.
  • Milacron is not responsible for the WiFi security.
  • Milacron highly recommends using our secure red-box/green-box system connected directly by cables. This ensures maximum connectivity and security from our data centers, to your factory LAN and each of your machines.

IF YOU ARE PROCEEDING WITH THE WIRED OPTION, PLEASE REMEMBER TO HAVE A DEDICATED ETHERNET LINE RUN TO EACH MACHINE FOR CONNECTIVITY!
