Information About You and Your School

Title 8 Education law section 135.3 states that all secondary schools shall provide appropriate instruction concerning the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) as part of required health education courses in grades 7-8 and in grades 9-12. Local boards of education or trustees may make condoms available to pupils in these grades as part of the district's HIV/AIDS instruction program following specific requirements defined in the law.

This presentation provides an overview for developing and submitting a Condom Availability Program (CAP) to NYSED which meets the requirements for an approvable plan for training school personnel and/or health service personnel providing personal health guidance to students. It is intended for use by administrators, school health services personnel and health educators choosing to implement a CAP.
