This scholarship is given annually to a Personal Support Worker nominated for excellence in hospice palliative care.
The scholarship is valued at $1,500 includes a full registration to the annual Hospice Palliative Care Ontario Conference, a stipend for travel and accommodation, and a one year membership in HPCO. The scholarship is awarded as a package and may not be broken into its components parts or cashed out. The scholarship is non-transferrable.

Nominations must be received by HPCO by March 15.
To be considered for this scholarship, the nominee must: Be a Personal Support Worker (PSW) registered with the PSW registry in Ontario
Have a minimum of two years’ experience in caring for people who are dying and supporting their families/loved ones in the work setting. (This can include those dying over a longer period in Long Term Care, and those dying over a shorter period in a Palliative Care unit)
Be currently working in any of the following settings: private residence, long-term care, acute care hospital, residential hospice, palliative care unit)
Integrate principles, practices and philosophy of Hospice Palliative Care in caring for residents/clients and families
Show respect dignity and compassion for residents/clients, to family and to co-workers
Demonstrate a commitment and passion for Hospice Palliative Care and to ongoing education
If a graduate of more than a few years, contributes to leadership and education through mentoring and preceptoring
Develop, promote, and maintain Palliative Care initiatives in their work environment
Actively advocate, educate, and support residents, families and staff members on quality palliative care
HPCO will appoint an adjudication committee to review candidates and recommend the recipient. The recipient will be notified of the scholarship in early April. The scholarship will be presented at the Annual Hospice Palliative Care Ontario Conference.
