Dealing with problem debt is not something to be ashamed of. The public individual insolvency register is a relic from an earlier time which contributes to an environment of shame and stigma around problem debt. This delays engagement with debt advice, adding to the mental health impacts that problem debt can bring. And it often acts as a barrier discouraging people from taking the debt solution that’s most suitable for them.
There’s #NoShameInDebt. The Individual Insolvency Register should be made private, to end the shaming of people in debt. Do you agree? Sign up to show your support.
