Introduction
Hello!
You’re invited to take part in this anonymous 15–20 minute survey because of the important role you play in supporting young people growing up with parental substance use.
This survey is for natural support professionals (example: teachers, counselors, youth workers, nurses, group home staff, etc.), foster parents, and kinship/family caregivers - people like YOU who show up every day to care for youth who may be going through a difficult time. These young people may be dealing with:

This survey is for natural support professionals (example: teachers, counselors, youth workers, nurses, group home staff, etc.), foster parents, and kinship/family caregivers - people like YOU who show up every day to care for youth who may be going through a difficult time. These young people may be dealing with:
- Stress: feeling worried, overwhelmed or under a lot of pressure
- Stigma: feeling judged or misunderstood because of their situation
- Living with difficult experiences within the family like separation, conflict, or a home that feels unstable

- Learn what it is like to support youth affected by a parent’s substance use
- Understand what helps you build trust and connection with the youth you care for
- Reflect on how your own story shapes how you support others
- Find out what tools or support would help you - and see if you want to help create them
You don’t have to answer every question. We value your voice, no matter how much you choose to share.

At Starlings, we’ve heard from many caregivers and professionals who want better, more caring ways to support young people growing up with parental addiction. This is why we are co-creating:
- A caregiver toolkit (a helpful guide made for folks like you)
- A community plan to bring people together and share support
We already looked at research and other programs and we saw that there are very few resources made specifically for people like you. This survey is the next step.

- We’ll only share a summary of the answers from other folks who completed the survey
- If we use quotes, they will not be linked to your name
