Do you have a very special furry or feathered friend and would love to share the gift of its unique companionship with aged care residents? All types of pets can be considered for this ongoing fun and rewarding role.


You will be interacting with residents at our Anam Cara aged care community at Bray Park to share smiles and bring joy! By bringing in your calm, well-socialised pet for cuddles you can ensure elderly people feel needed and comforted, and pets can remind the person of a former, well-loved pet from their past. The love and companionship offered by pets is particularly important in residential care, where a much-loved pet can help ease the transition from home to an aged care home. Pets can also help boost morale, improve quality of life and provide valuable insights about the residents

All types of pets can be considered for this ongoing fun and rewarding role.

Some of the goals Companion Volunteers with pets can assist with with include:
  • Improving motor skills and joint movement
  • Increasing self-esteem
  • Improving assisted or independent movement
  • Increasing in verbal communication and development of social skills
  • Improving willingness to join in activities

Our Anam Cara Aged Care Community features a homelike environment where residents can enjoy a sense of community, well-being and belonging. The role of the Companion Pet Volunteer is suitable for people who have well developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills and display a calm, caring and empathetic manner. Volunteering is a great way to make a difference in the lives of our seniors while making friends, having fun and learning new skills.

Volunteering hours for this role can be made flexible to suit you and your lifestyle commitments .

Anam Cara means ‘Soul Place’ and is an innovative and award winning aged care community. Residents enjoy a resort style community with expansive outdoor gardens, children’s playgrounds and BBQ areas that can be enjoyed by residents, families and friends.
