Department of Business and Economics - Spring 2016

In an effort to improve our bachelor's and associate's of business degrees, the Department of Business and Economics is currently undergoing a revision of our program's learning objectives.  A program learning objective is a statement that captures what we want our students to know or be able to do upon graduation.  Below are seven learning objectives identified in a study conducted by Capsim Management Simulations, Inc.  According to Capsim, “These “Big 7” goals were generated from compiling over 270 specific learning goals collected from more than 50 different business schools, representing a wide variety  of institutions (i.e., large/small, public/private, ranked/unranked, and so forth).  Analyzing this information revealed that seven broad learning goals inclusively summarized the pool of school-specific goals. In this sense, the Big 7 general learning goals are comprehensive and cover the vast majority of mission-driven assurance of learning activities conducted by today’s schools of business.”

The purpose of this exercise is to ask you to rank the learning objectives in order of importance.  Thus, ranking a learning objective as a ‘1’ indicates that you believe the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA’s) described in the objective are the most important KSA’s to develop in our students and the most important KSA’s they need to possess upon graduation.
