Introduction

Portsmouth City Council is looking at how public barbecues (BBQs) and amplified music are used in the city's seafront spaces, including Canoe Lake, Southsea Common and Castle Field

Many people enjoy BBQs and gathering outdoors with friends and family. We have also heard a range of views about BBQ use and amplified music, including both benefits and concerns about their impact on seafront spaces.

We would like to understand local experiences and opinions. Your answers will help inform the council's future approach to managing BBQ use and amplified music in these areas. No decisions have been made.

Some questions ask for your views about specific locations. Please answer those questions based on your personal experience of each of those areas.

The beach itself is not included in this consultation. However, we will ask for your views on BBQs in that area to inform future approaches.

The survey closes at 11:59pm on 11th October 2026
