Program Overview
TechFoundation manages the TechGrant Program. It is a flexible program and total funding will depend upon the nature and quality of the application pool. Grants will range from $5,000 to $25,000 (all in cash) per grantee. It is expected that total funding will range from $100,000 to $400,000. Given national IT needs of non-profits and the broad criteria, TechGrant awards are extremely competitive.

In order to apply for a TechGrant, your organization must have IRS 501(c)(3) public charity status and be current on Guidestar. Charity Navigator reviews are also part of our review process.

Uses of Funds
Funds may be used for hardware, software, or services. No overhead is allowable.

Award Announcement
One of our objectives in implementing this grant program is to draw attention to the need for additional investments in the area of nonprofit technology. As such, we have planned several media/communication activities that are part of the award acceptance process including:

• Press Release: We will issue a press release announcing the grant award, and describing your organization and technology project. Award winners will be contacted for interviews and to secure quotes for the release and other materials (see below). Where possible, we would like to also secure photographs related to the project for which funding was received, to be used in online and other materials.

• Web Announcement: We will feature all grant recipients on the TechFoundation web site (www.techfoundation.org), utilizing materials gathered for the Press Release. The web release will be coordinated with email and other announcements directing readers to the information on the site. A link to your web site will be included in this announcement.

• Reciprocal Web Links. One of the objectives of the TechGrant program is to raise the visibility of your program and the need for more resources in the field of non-profit technology. We require that your organization provide a reciprocal link to the TechFoundation web site on your site as well. We would be particularly interested in a project profile page that describes your program with a link back to TechFoundation. Our communications staff will be available to help create this information. We are sensitive that we do not want this component of the communications program to be a burden and we will work carefully to minimize inconvenience.

As part of the TechGrant application, you must provide a proposed method to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of any grant. Such methods should include short and long-term goals supported by the award, and a rough timeline for completing the scope of work. We will require a preliminary report and a final report within 60 days of completion of the project but no later than December 31.

None of the funds of the grant may be used for lobbying or any activity that might be construed to be lobbying.

Financial Record Keeping
You must maintain adequate books and records such that if TechFoundation’s auditors (we are audited by a public accounting firm each year) require substantiation of your expenses as part of this program that your organization can demonstrate that the funds were expended appropriately.
