Introduction and background Information

What do you think about the How much is too much? initiative in Portsmouth?

Portsmouth City Council have been running the 'How much is too much?' initiative since September, where some late-night bars and clubs in Portsmouth are using breathalysers on the doors to screen for people who are too drunk to enter and be served alcohol. Not everyone will be breathalysed, each bar or club will choose who they breathalyse and will use the reading alongside how the person is behaving to decide whether to allow them in.

Researchers at the University of Southampton are evaluating the 'How much is too much?' initiative and want your opinions. You do NOT have to provide your name. Your survey response will be completely anonymous. The survey will take 5 – 10 minutes to complete and will ask about your views of the initiative as well as a little bit about whether you go out in the city centre. When we refer to the city centre we're meaning Guildhall Walk and Gunwharf. By taking part you will help us understand the public’s views of the initiative. The results of the research will be written up in an evaluation report and may be published in an academic journal. You do not have to answer all the questions if you don’t want to, and you can stop taking the survey at any time.
