Survey overview

UCT eResearch, on behalf of the DVC-Research, is conducting a targeted survey of UCT research facilities (shared equipment and services), to update and improve the functionality of the existing eResearch Facilities Database, with the dual purpose to:
  • develop a single online system to access available research facilities (infrastructure and associated support services);
  • implement a booking and billing system to enable cost recovery of these research facilities.
Based on the outcome of this survey, a university-wide system will be selected from the shortlisted products identified in consultation with a pilot group of facility managers. The selected facilities management system will be offered as a software as a service (SaaS) model hosted externally in a multi-tenant approach, serving the needs of a large number of facilities, and integrated with UCT enterprise research planning systems such as SAP and PeopleSoft.
