Class Visit Request

The Portland Archives and Records Center is happy to host your class in our Research Room! We are excited to introduce students to archives and to Portland’s city records. Help us plan your visit by completing and submitting this form at least 15 business days before your scheduled visit.

Requests are not finalized until you receive a confirmation email from PARC staff with additional instructions on visiting the archives and what to expect.

Classes are scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm or 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Please respond with your first and second choices for a date and time. If our standard days and appointment times don't work with your class schedule, please let us know, and we will try to accommodate you.

Below are typical types of class sessions we conduct at the Archives. If you have a different request, please write it in using the "Other" choice, and we will consider if we have the space and resources to accommodate you. Please note that if students need to do in-depth research with additional materials pulled on the spot, they should work within our normal operations and make individual research appointments.

This session provides time for Q&A, but no opportunity for students to do research (max number of students: 30).

You will be responsible for collaborating with the archivist on choosing the materials at least 5 business days before the archives session. This session provides time for Q&A, but no opportunity for students to do research (max number of students: 30).

Overview of archives and using archives followed by student-conducted research on a pre-specified topic(s) in smaller breakout groups. You will be responsible for choosing the materials and notifying the archivist at least 5 business days before the archives session. No more than 5 breakout groups, and students will only work with the materials chosen for the session (max number of students: 20).
