How Remote Are the Chances of Going Back "to" Work?
There was an interesting piece in the Wall Street Journal recently titled “What CEOs Really Think About Remote Work.” Not exactly an in-depth analysis of the issues and likely outcomes, just brief comments from a number of CEOs from a variety of industries, geographies, and workforce demographics made at different times, at different places, and in front of different audiences about the concept, and the pandemic-induced realities of how remote working is “going” – and the future prospects for returning “to” work(places).
Most (though not all) seemed to prize the collaborative outcomes of being together at work as a distinct advantage compared with the current all-remote work environments. And while CEOs don’t always have the most accurate perspective on such things, they DO tend to set the standards for such things. That said, a comment made by a Millennial advisor at the recent NAPA 401(k) Cyber Summit still sticks in my memory – “we’re working from home now, and we’re never going back.”
