Preface

Has money for architectural survey dried up in your county?

Is operational funding for your museum impossible to come by?

Are there historic buildings in your community that desperately need bricks-and-mortar repairs, but you just can’t find the money to save them?

If so, we want to hear from you!

In their "Report on the Fiscal 2017 State Operating Budget and the State Capital Budget and Related Recommendations", the Chairmen and Members of Maryland's Senate Budget and Taxation Committee and the House Appropriations Committee expressed their concern that MHT no longer provides funding for certain types of preservation activities.  In fact, MHT's Capital, Non-Capital, and Museum Assistance Program grants have not been funded for over five years.  In their report, the Chairmen requested that MHT "identify the need and demand for preservation, survey, and museum (operating and capital) grant funding and future plans to address these statewide needs."  The report "should also comment on potential innovative funding options available".

Please help us understand the need for historic preservation and museum funding in your community by participating in our survey.  If you have questions or would like to share additional thoughts, please contact Anne Raines at MHT at anne.raines@maryland.gov.
