Wesley Mission Queensland’s Petrie and Arana Hills Community Aged Care Respite Services are looking for people interested in spending time with our clients helping out in fun and enjoyable daily activities and outings.   Just a bit of quality time shared can mean so much!

About our Community Aged Care Respite Services

Our Community Aged Care Respite Services assist seniors and people living with a disability to take a break from their regular environment, meet new people and have a fun and rewarding experience while still having their care needs met.


The Community Aged Care Respite Services provide:
  • Centre-based day respite
  • Social support
  • Personal care
  • Flexible respite
  • Transport to and from the respite centres
  • Podiatry
  • Hairdressing
  • Carer support groups
  • Referral to other services as required.
The Community Aged Care Respite Services also supports special needs groups, including:
  • People living with dementia
  • People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and
  • Carers of elderly people and people living with a disability.

About the Role

Our Program Assistants work in a team with paid staff and other volunteers to:

  • Set up equipment and resources for the day’s activities
  • Supporting the activities and creating a fun, friendly, and stimulating environment
  • Assisting with serving food and drink, and clearing tables and trolleys
  • Watering plants and keeping areas tidy
  • Cleaning up and putting things away.
Shifts are available weekdays - morning, afternoon, or a full day 9am till 4pm. 

We also have opportunities for volunteers to assist with:
  • Exercise Program: Facilitating programs or assisting clients in exercise programs (Petrie)
  • Gardening Program:   Potting and maintaining plants with clients (Petrie)
  • Bus Driving:  Driving the centre bus on trips to pick up or deliver clients in the morning or afternoon - Open QLD C Class licence required (Petrie)
  • Bus Assistance:   Assisting as a passenger on trips to pick up or deliver clients in the morning or afternoon (Petrie)
  • 3D Printer Teacher:  Teaching and demonstrating how to use a 3D printer to others - no experience necessary, we will show you! (Petrie)
  • Other ways you would like to share your time with us!
Our Community Aged Care Respite Services are a lovely, welcoming, and rewarding places to volunteer where you will meet many wonderful people and learn great new skills that may assist you both personally and professionally.

All our volunteers follow a COVID-19 safe work plan and provide proof they have received their COVID-19 vaccinations before they are registered in their role.

Volunteers will also be required to have a current NDIS Workers Screening Clearance and Blue Card Combined check prior to commencement. This can be applied for through Wesley Mission Queensland at no cost to you.
