About our Wednesday Community Meal
Wednesday Community Meal is part of Wesley Mission Queensland’s Brisbane Relief Hub situated at 316 St Pauls Terrace, Fortitude Valley, 4006.

Community Meal has been serving people who find themselves in times of hardship since 2005. The service provides a vital lifeline for more than 130 marginalised people offering them a nutritious three-course, hot meal. Community Meal aims to assist people who are experiencing disadvantage, many of whom face the challenges of social isolation. The inclusive nature of the meal is a unique drawcard for clients, staff and volunteers with everyone encouraged to come along and sit down and eat together. It’s an opportunity for people to engage with others, eat some healthy food and feel part of the wider Brisbane community.

As part of the Community Meal, volunteers can assist with:
  • Wednesday 10am to 1pm - basic meal preparation
  • Wednesday 1pm to 5pm - pre-cooking, dinner preparation and set up
  • Wednesday 5pm to 8pm - serving dinner and post-dinner cleanup
  • Thursday 8am to 11am - thorough clean of kitchen and meal area.

Security Checks
Because you will be spending time with vulnerable people, and to keep all volunteers, staff, clients and the general public safe, it is a requirement that all active Wesley Mission Queensland volunteers have a current security check on file at all times.   Wesley Mission Queensland will accept one of the following current (more than three months due to expire) security checks:

  • Federal Police Check
  • Volunteer Police Check
  • Working with People with Disabilities Yellow Card or Exemption Card
  • Working with Children Blue Card or Exemption Card.
If you do not have any of the above security checks and would like to apply for one through Wesley Mission Queensland we will arrange and cover the cost for a Federal Police Check to be completed at your induction for our screening purposes.  You will be required to supply 100 points of identification to complete this check. 

Being a not-for-profit organisation, if you would like to save Wesley Mission Queensland the cost of processing a Security Check for you, you can log onto Rapid Screening and complete a Volunteer Security Check online for $24.50.  This check is yours to use where and when required, however, if recruited as a volunteer with Wesley Mission Queensland we will need a copy to verify on your behalf prior to commencement.   All money we save from you providing this check goes back into supporting Queenslanders in need.
