Doctoral Hooding & Commencement Volunteer Opportunities

We invite faculty, staff, and Alumni to volunteer for one of our most meaningful traditions, celebrating the achievements of our graduates.
Volunteers play an essential role in ensuring that both the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony and the Commencement Ceremonies run smoothly and create a memorable experience for our students, their families, and our community.

Important Note
  • Volunteer opportunities listed here do not require academic regalia.
  • Transportation to the Tinley Park Convention Center will be your responsibility- No shuttle service from campus will be provided.
  • This volunteer sign-up is for faculty, staff, Alumni who are not required to participate through departmental assignments.
  • Departments such as DLMD, CPA, ITS, DPS, Facilities, Registrar’s Office, and the Office of University Events with assigned Commencement responsibilities should not register through this general commencement form. Faculty & Staff Processional –If you would like to also participate in the College Academic Processional (as a non-marshal), please also sign up using this link: https://www.research.net/r/faculty_staff_processional

You may participate in the processional in addition to volunteering, if desired. Many faculty and staff who walk in the academic processional also assist in the robing room or serve as directional personnel in the lobby, helping students and guests find their way. Participation in the College Academic Processional requires academic regalia. Additional details are available on the Faculty & Staff Processional sign-up page.

Non-marshal participants in the Faculty & Staff College Academic Processional will lead the front of the processional lines ahead of the graduates and then be seated with the graduates for the duration of the program.

May 5, 2026 : from 1 pm - 4 pm
May 6, 2026 : from 9 am - 12:00 pm

Doctoral Hooding Ceremony
Date/Time: Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.
Location: Center for Performing Arts, Governors State University
Volunteer Arrival: 4:30 p.m. (check-in and assignments)
Ceremony Ends: Approximately 7:30 p.m.

Commencement Setup Day
Date/Time: Friday, May 15, 2026,
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
