Introduction

Advance HE, on behalf of UK Research and Innovation, is conducting a Review of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Challenges and Interventions in Research and Innovation.

We are interested in policies, practices or interventions which aimed to reduce differential access, experiences, progression, outcomes and/or support inclusion for those working in or around the research and innovation sector, or related fields. More information on the background to this review can be found here.

This is an excellent opportunity for your organisation to contribute to a deeper understanding of what works, what does not, and the robustness of this evidence base. To encourage openness we can anonymise your organisation in our final report, but we will be happy to acknowledge all eligible submissions in our final report.

PLEASE NOTE: the deadline for submissions is 19 February 2019.

What we are looking for

We are interested in programmes, policies, practice, interventions or ways of working which aimed to reduce differential access, experiences, progression or outcomes and support inclusion for those working in or around the research and innovation sector.

Eligible evidence will refer to actions which:
  • Aimed to have a positive impact on equality (equity), diversity or inclusion of people from different groups, identities or characteristics.
  • Took place either within an organisation involved in research or innovation (eg as an employer) or were related to the funding, practice or communication of research and innovation.
  • We are also interested in actions which aimed to increase rates of disclosing or declaring equality-related personal data.
  • Measured the outcomes of an intervention, with a clear methodology. Evidence of what ‘did not work’ is equally valued.
  • Took place recently: started or was completed after 2010.
Examples might include: practices, projects or initiatives (including pilots) to address equality issues within staff employment and careers (recruitment, retention, promotion), wellbeing (inclusion, bullying and harassment), or funding and publication equity.

We are particularly interested in materials less likely to appear in a standard academic literature search (as this is being conducted separately) for example:
  • Unpublished studies, internal reports, evaluations, case studies.
  • Detailed policy documents.
  • Meta-analyses or ‘Gap’ analyses on this theme.
The following are considered out of scope for this review:
  • Material which contains personal data without consent to share.
  • Personal accounts and testimonies
  • Promotional, marketing or media materials
All personal data and information that you share will be held confidentially by Advance HE in accordance with the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018. At no point will the information you provide be shared in a way that would allow you to be personally identified.
