Autoimmune diseases and ketogenic and very-low carbohydrate diets survey
This survey is being conducted by researchers at the University of Nottingham and focuses on the experiences of people who have an autoimmune disease and have tried a ketogenic or other very-low carbohydrate diet (e.g. keto, carnivore, zero-carb, Wahls Paleo Plus). It aims to find out how people implement these diets and if they report changes in their symptoms and general health.

Your participation is entirely voluntary. You may withdraw at any time by closing this window before pressing submit at the end. It will take around 10 minutes to complete, and you can skip any question you like, besides a few on the first page which determine the following questions you are asked. Please only take the survey once. See the participant information sheet for the full details of this research:

To be eligible for this survey, you must meet ALL of the following criteria:
  • 18 years old or above
  • Diagnosed with an autoimmune disease or condition by a medical doctor
  • Not diagnosed with type 1 diabetes
  • Currently on a ketogenic/very-low carbohydrate diet OR have tried one in the past 2-years
  • Tried a ketogenic/very-low carbohydrate diet for at least a month
For this survey, ketogenic/very-low carbohydrate diets are defined as equal to or less than 50g net carbs per day (excluding fibre). As a reference, this is around 10-15 cups of non-starchy vegetables or 2-3 cups of nuts and seeds. Meat, fish, seafood, eggs, and fats/oils have no carbohydrate. This definition includes carnivore-style diets and does not require you to be in ketosis.

If you started the diet longer than 2-years ago, you can still participate so long as you continued the diet into the last 2-years.
