The School Success Initiative is a yearlong intensive partnership with public schools in high-need communities in NYC. Three main goals stand at the core of the program: 1) enhancing parent programming and engagement with the school; 2) increasing student attendance and affiliation to the school through unique and creative programming; and 3) mobilizing community involvement and environmental improvement through outreach, programming and events.
This program is designed to meet the unique needs of the school. Therefore, the schools selected for this initiative will be given access to a dedicated New York Cares staff (AmeriCorps) advocate for the entire school year. The staff member will work to customize an individualized yearly volunteer-led educational programming plan for each school to help them meet their goals. At the end of each school year we anticipate the selected schools to have numerous new support programs for their students, parents and larger community.
This program requires school staff engagement but comes at no additional cost to the partner schools. We expect all participating schools to take an active role in this partnership and require close collaboration with school staff in order to maintain that all three goals are achieved.

Since 1987, New York Cares has been our city's premier volunteer management organization. We respond to our city's most acute needs by working with social service agencies, schools, homeless shelters and other deserving agencies to plan and manage projects that can be carried out by teams of volunteers. Day in and day out, our volunteers take homeless kids to the library, feed the hungry, visit the ill and elderly, clean up school buildings and parks, tutor public school students, provide coats to those who would go without, and do so much more, all at no cost to our Community Partners.
