Prince William County is beginning an effort to rename the stretch of Route 1 that extends through the area. Prince William County’s stretch of Route 1 is approximately 12 miles and encompasses nearly 1,000 residential and business addresses.

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors issued Directive 20-54 to “Develop a Plan to Mitigate the Impacts of Renaming Route 1 on Affected Small Businesses.” County staff has identified potential costs to small businesses, including updating signage, print and digital marketing materials and administrative costs and fees to update licensures and permits. An estimated cost was included in the presentation to the Board on September 8, 2020.

Prince William County Economic Development would like to better understand the impacts of this change to local business owners. This survey will be utilized to develop a strategy of tools that can help the business community with the upcoming change. The results of the survey will be compiled in aggregate form and will be provided to County leadership.
