School Based Health Center - Service Survey

Why a School Based Health Center (SBHC)
A School Based Health Center (SBHC) would provide or make available, comprehensive primary medical, social, mental health, and health education services designed to meet the psychosocial and physical needs of our Joplin School students. This might include comprehensive health assessments and diagnosis and treatment of minor, acute and chronic medical and mental health conditions, which often requires the student to miss a full day of school.
(Statistics show that Joplin High School looses approximately one million instructional minutes annually due to dentist and doctor visits.)
SBHC services would be provided at no out-of-pocket cost to those students who enroll in the SBHC through a parental consent process. Parental consent would confirm access and enrollment for the duration of a student’s enrollment in the Joplin Schools. As appropriate, the agency provider of the SBHC may bill third party payers for services.
SBHC services would be provided by a multi-disciplinary team, which might include a full-time nurse practitioner/physician assistant, nurse, access to mental health professionals, physician, and health assistants. The number of staff will depend on the number of students enrolled in the SBHC and the services to be provided.
